Szilvásváradi State Forest Railway

The forest small-railway was designed by Károly Wessei, and given to the transport in 1908. From 1910, it became the property of Károly Alfoz Pallavicini and the margrave family operated it untill the II. World War. In the 30's, wood and limestone was carried on the nearly 30 km long railway. Later the forestry gained the right of it, and from 1966 the steam engine was changed into a diesel one. From that on, the goods carrying was replaced with touristic like passenger carrying. Nowdays the exact steam engine and carriages are renovated, and 200 thousand tourists are carryed on it.


This extreeme rope-way system can be found above the rapid Szalajka-stream, in a wonderfull natural surrounding, available for everyone. At a 5-6 meters hight, platforms are fixed on the trunks of the trees, one can move on them with the help of wireropes, blocks, rope nooses. Along with ones own skills and bravery, carabiners and wormgears help to surmount the hitches.

For the breaver ones, the Adrenalin-field is available.

Flying fox

The slidingfield, made from 6 parts is a novelty, where the participants task is "just" to reste their wormgears from one slidingfield to another.

Before the actions, an accident-protecting and a usage course is held. We continously coordinate all the participants. Pictogramms are placed before every hitch, to help the understanding of the task.

Millenium Look-out

The look-out was built of the purpose of the Millenium for 20'th of August 2000, at Saint Steven's day, with the aid of the Economical Government, the Enviroment Protection Government the National Cultural Inheritage Government, on the Kalapat-peak. From the terrace of the 20 meters high structure, built of Siberian caber, a spectacle view opens at Szilvásvárad and the sorrounding forests. It can be aproached on the high-way from the Szalajka-völgy, or on the also newly constructed Millenium Path on foot.

The Millenium Path

The Bükki National Park Management and the Eger-Forest Forestry Rt. had bulilt the Path, that leads from from Szilvásvárad to the parking place of Kalapat-mountain. An informational board can be found in the parking of the village, that leads the visitors to the starting point of the path. At the designing, the most important fact was, to make the path reachable and accomplishable for every age class. The trait line is well chosen easily walkable and scattered with peebles. Stairs and barriers help the moveing on the steep parts. Three resting places have been formed, with wooden branches and tables, and rain shelter step-inns. During the tour we'll encounter 20 detailed boards, describing the values of the nature, the tasks of the enviroment protection the forest and the sylviculture. The Path is 1940 meters long, and the level rising is 210 meters. The sign of the Path is a coommonly used symbol in the whole Bükki National Park's territory, a diagonal blue stripe.

The Lipicai stud-farm

The most significant attracting factor is the lipicai horse, and the institute system connecting to it and the equestrian sport.

The history of the lipicai horse was written by a lot a of people, a lot of times, thus just a short summarie: the ancients of the stud-farm came to Europe from Carthago in the antiquity. Here they were cross-bred with the heavy Pireneean horse, and from the most succesfull line comes the famous Andalusian horse. In 1676, Prince Károly II founded a stud-farm in Lipizza at the Adrian karstic plain. The Austrian Andalusian horses with a blood refreshment with the new andalusian, were the first speices of the nowdays lipicai horses. The present base-stallion stock was placed to Lipizza in 1772, than becaouse of the wars, it was moved first to Mezőhegyes, than Fogaras, later to Bábolna. Between 1950-61, the stud-farm was moved to Szilvásvárad ( to the Bükk-plain), that resembles the most to the Lipizzai circumstances, and since that, this is the home of the Hungarian lipicai horse.

The number of the stud-farm is about 250, since years, from this, the number of the brood-mare is 65-70. The horses form three different stud-farms: the mother-mare, the annual-stud, and the filly stud farm.

Mother-mare stud

The mother-mare stud can be found on the territory of Szilvásvárad . Here, 70 mother-mare can be placed with it's foal. The construction of the major and the stable is mainly for breeding purposes, but the Carriage exhibiton and the Maestoso- Lipicai souvenir shop also waits the guests here.

The stallion-foal stud

The base of the stud in Csipkéskút is a stable enough for 80 young stallion, with a large runway.

Filly Stud

The pup fillys got place in the stud, that can be found in Szalajka-valley. This is by near Szilvásvárad, in the direction of Nagyvisnyó.

Carriage exhibiton

The exhibition gives home to several beautifull carriages and sledges, placed in the yard of the mother-mare stud.

Lipicai Species -History exibition

The permanent exhibition presents the history and the wandering of the lipicai horse, in one side wing of the stallion.

A beautifull classical building, 6 stallion is "living" in the count house.

Equestrian field

One of Europe's most beautifull Euestrian Field is built on the plain between the village and Szalajka-valley. A wonderfull view opens at the Bükk from the institution with a 14 thousand person content capacity. The stadium, next to the regurlary organised coach-driving and equestrian races, is capable to settle other programmes too.

Roofed Riding-school

Infront of the equestrian Field, at the other side of the Szalajka-valley service road, is the Riding-school, capable of taking in 1500 person. On the display the programmes are: wrangler-display, "voltizs"( child equestrian-gimnastics) display, musical prize horse-riding, display of the breeding animals (stallion, brood-mare, filly) coach-driving and coach "karusszel".

Equestrian Tourism

The respect for the horses, the horse keeping and the demand for horse riding is growing in Hungary and in abroad as well. The horse riding instead of just being a wealthy social layer's sport and hobby, became to fulfill the demand of a constantly growing and widening social layer. It is becomeing well known, that the horse riding is not just an exigent, nice sport, but also an exciting spare-time spending, and method of keeping good healt. The riding-competitions, prize-jumpings and horse displays are held infront of a growing enquiry.

In Szilvásvárad's individual tourism, mainly the coach-tourism (promenade) had spread, becaouse the lipicai horses are used for coach-driving next to the keeping of the excellent blood-line. The Roofed Riding-school is suited not just for equestrian displays, but for winter trainig-camps and races too. Those, who are not enough close with horses to participate in equestrian training camps, but like the nature and noble animals, can too find great programmes. The beautifully laced carriages can give an unforgettable experience while showing the unique values of the nature. In winter, horse-sledgeing is possible.
